3. DIY DROP-IN DONATIONS:

We will accept only the following items in the store during business hours:

Yarn
Fabric (yardage only, no scraps)
Canvases (new and used)
Sketch Pads
Art Paints (no aerosols or house paint)
Paint Brushes
Jewelry
Beads
Glue (no aerosols)
Tape
Rubber Bands
Paper Bags with Handles

Look for the "DIY DONATIONS" area behind the register.
All items must be separated into appropriate labeled bins.

How To Donate:

Before you Donate:

• Check our lists of Items We Generally Accept and Items We Are Currently NOT Accepting (see below). These will give you a very good idea of what we may accept. We update these lists as often as we can, however, our inventory changes frequently so our staff has final say on what we can take.
• Organize your items so we can see everything clearly when you drop it off. Bag like items together (ex: corks in one bag, bottlecaps in another). Boxes of loose, unorganized items will likely be turned away. The more organized your donation is, the faster we will be able to get you in and out. Bring your donation in a bag, box, or container that can be left behind.
• We reserve the right to refuse any partial or full donations for any reason.
• Parking along Alder can be tricky. If you are parked directly next to the curb, you are in the bike lane and will need to move. Park to the left of the second white line painted on the street. Donations appointments typically take 5-15 minutes.

-If you come to an Drop-in Donation Day:

• Bring your donation to the Donations door (SW Alder Street, to the East of the main entrance next to our roll-up garage door) and ring the bell. 
• Be prepared to wait while we help other donors, while we look through your donation and then while we sort your donation into general categories. We may ask for your help in the sorting process. This whole process could take anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour depending on how busy we are and the size and organization of your donation.
• We reserve the right to refuse any partial or full donations for any reason. If your donation is over 50 lbs., we will ask you to split your donation over multiple drop-in days or make an appointment.
• Tax Receipts are given upon request.

-If you have a Donation Appointment:

• Bring your donation to the Donations door (SW Alder Street, to the East of the main entrance next to our roll-up garage door) and ring the bell. If you need a cart to transport your donation, we have one available.
• Be prepared to wait while we look through your donation. This could take anywhere from 1-30 minutes depending on the size and organization of your donation, though it typically takes 5-15 minutes.
• Tax Receipts are automatically emailed out to the email used to create your appointment. It may take up to a week.

-If you have yarn, fabric, canvases, sketch pads, art paints, paint brushes, jewelry, beads, glue, tape, rubber bands and/or paper bags with handles for DIY Donations

• Bring your donation into the main Store entrance to the DIY Donations area behind the register.
• Tax Receipts are available by request.

Do Not:

• Dump your donation on the sidewalk or in the store at any time, regardless of the items. This is considered illegal dumping and it hurts our organization and our community.
• Mail your donation to the store. All donations must be made in person.

Do you love that your donated materials skip the waste stream and make their way into creative hands?

It costs SCRAP an average of $4.54 to process each pound of material we get. Please consider making a monetary donation to help us offset these costs.

• Styrofoam: Green Century Recycling, Drop-off at: 2950 NW 29th Ave Portland Oregon 97210. The fee is $10 per 45-gallon bag.
• Plastics (clear #1, #2, #4, #5 and #6), plastic utensils, plastic screw-on caps, empty contact lens blister packs (with foil removed): James Recycling Pop-Up Events (971-217-7444)
• Other national recycling programs for specific branded items: Terracycle
• Anything else? Call the Metro Recycling Hotline for advice (503-234-3000).
• Free sites/apps to post your items yourself: BuyNothing, FreeCycle, Freeya, NextDoor, Olio, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist
